I’m Stephanie, the creator and one of the devoted caretakers behind Moonseed Ragdolls in Columbus, Ohio. My background includes professional experience in the veterinary field and feline rescue. I have loved cats for as long as I can remember, but falling in love with the Ragdoll breed was something different. Our priorities are simple: health first, temperament second, and Ragdoll type third. That order guides every pairing, every veterinary decision, and every choice about how a kitten is raised. Beauty matters in a preservation breeding program, but it never outranks health or a sound, people-loving temperament.
Health Comes First
Our breeding cats are screened through Optimal Selection Advanced, which currently tests for more than 45 genetic health conditions along with blood type, traits, and genetic diversity. We review breed-relevant results, including the known Ragdoll-associated HCM variant, polycystic kidney disease, and pyruvate kinase deficiency (Optimal Selection, n.d.).
There is an important bit of honesty here: genetic testing is a valuable tool, but it is not a crystal ball. A negative result for a known HCM variant reduces a known genetic risk; it cannot promise that a cat will never develop heart disease. Current responsible-breeding guidance supports combining genetic testing with hands-on veterinary care and veterinary-directed health screening, including echocardiography when appropriate (American Association of Feline Practitioners [AAFP], 2024).
Our program also includes FeLV and FIV testing before a cat enters the breeding program, PCR screening for respiratory and gastrointestinal pathogens, regular DVM care, parasite prevention, routine fecal testing, and veterinary-directed cardiac monitoring. When a result raises a serious concern, we do not explain it away for the sake of a litter. The cat’s wellbeing and the future of the line come first.
Temperament Is Never an Afterthought
Ragdolls are loved for more than their blue eyes and beautiful coats. Families dream about the affectionate, trusting, wonderfully floppy companion behind that pretty face, and temperament begins with both genetics and daily experience.
The early weeks of kittenhood include a sensitive period for social learning. Positive, gentle exposure to people, household sounds, handling, play, and ordinary home life helps kittens build confidence (Quimby et al., 2021). Our kittens grow up in the middle of family life with their mother and littermates. They hear children, dogs, doors, laughter, toys, and the vacuum cleaner, which remains suspicious but survivable.
Most Moonseed kittens go home at about 14 weeks, and an individual kitten may remain with us until 16 weeks when extra maturity would help. That is our cattery decision based on the kitten in front of us, not a claim that one age fits every kitten everywhere. At 14 weeks, a Ragdoll is still very much a baby, just a baby with a little more confidence and slightly stronger opinions about dinner.
Preserving the Ragdoll We Love
Moonseed pedigrees include traditional, no-outcrossing Ragdoll lines as well as champion foundations. We select with the written breed standard in mind while protecting the qualities families cherish most: a substantial, beautiful cat with a gentle, social, trusting nature.
No amount of perfect marking or show-ring promise earns a cat a place in our breeding program if health or temperament is not right. The cats are not here to serve the program. The program exists to serve the cats and the future of the breed. We breed for the iconic Ragdoll temperment, and it is paramount to our program, and it shows up in our kittens!
Why Every Moonseed Kitten Goes Home Spayed or Neutered
Every Moonseed kitten is spayed or neutered before leaving our care, with no exceptions.
We know this can surprise families who are accustomed to bringing home an intact kitten and arranging surgery later. We also know how busy those first weeks can be: kitten-proofing the house, scheduling a new-patient veterinary visit, learning everyone’s routine, and discovering that a phone charger is apparently a gourmet delicacy.
The American Association of Feline Practitioners supports spaying or neutering cats not intended for breeding by five months of age and notes that cats may become reproductively active as early as four to five months, sometimes without obvious physical signs (AAFP, 2020). Completing the surgery before adoption prevents accidental litters and ensures that every kitten we place remains a cherished companion.
Each kitten’s veterinarian determines surgical readiness and performs the procedure under professional anesthesia and monitoring. The kitten then recovers here, in familiar surroundings, while we watch appetite, comfort, activity, and the incision. Families receive the veterinary record and bring home a kitten whose surgery and immediate recovery are already behind them.
For us, pediatric spay and neuter is not an inconvenient extra. It is a promise: no Moonseed kitten will ever contribute to an accidental litter, and no adopter will be left carrying the stress of arranging that first surgery alone.
A Small, Family-Run Cattery Built Around the Cats
Moonseed Ragdolls has grown over the years as a human family, but the center of the day has never changed. The cats are cared for inside our home by my fiance, myself, our full time kitty caregiver, Igor, and my children are part of the rhythm of feeding, playing, grooming, handling, cleaning, and socializing, and so are my grandchildren! Kittens learn that people come in different sizes and voices, and that the smallest people are often the ones most willing to play for an hour. We have a house full of love for our cats & kittens!
We intentionally remain a small, low-density cattery. Our cats are not caged or crowded into a single room. We keep only the number of cats we can know individually and care for properly, because quality of life matters more than the number of litters we could produce.
Around here, kittens are never inventory. They are tiny individuals with their own personalities, preferences, friendships, and occasionally very dramatic thoughts about dinner being three minutes late. We know them, love them, and carefully prepare them for the families who will cherish them for the rest of their lives.

How the Moonseed Ragdolls Adoption Process Works
Our adoption process is completed online and by email. That is intentional: applications, current kitten photos and videos, prices, payment information, contracts, care instructions, and transportation plans remain documented in writing for both of us. There are no hurried phone conversations to remember later and no mystery about what was promised.
Adoption Path One: Adopt a Currently Available Kitten
Meet the kittens. Visit the Available Ragdoll Kittens page and open each kitten’s individual page for current photos, vidoes, personality notes, price, and home-suitability guidance.
Apply. Applications are reviewed in the order received, and approved families generally hear from us within about 48 hours.
Receive an Official Invitation to Adopt. The email includes the kitten’s details plus current photos and videos. The kitten is placed on Adoption Pending for 48 hours while you decide.
Complete the adoption. We do not accept deposits for kittens already listed as available. The full purchase price is due within 48 hours of approval. Once payment clears and the electronic contract is signed, we send you your supply lists, go home preparation materials, and arrange pickup or transportation.
Adoption Path Two: Join the Waitlist for a Future Litter
Join for one year. The initial non-refundable waitlist deposit is $750 and remains valid for one year from enrollment.
Receive private updates. Waitlist families receive litter plans, birth announcements, and kitten photos and videos before eligible kittens are offered publicly.
Choose at the appropriate stage. Families generally select a kitten when the litter is about 8 to 11 weeks old.
Reserve a specific kitten. A second non-refundable deposit of $1,200 is due when a kitten is selected. Both deposits apply toward the final purchase price.
Prepare for go-home. The remaining balance is due one week before the scheduled go-home date, and the adoption contract must be signed before pickup or transportation.

A Columbus, Ohio Ragdoll Breeder Serving Families Nationwide
Moonseed Ragdolls is based in Columbus, Ohio, and many of our families come from Columbus, Dublin, Dayton, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Akron, Toledo, and communities throughout the state. We also welcome approved families from across the United States.
Families may pick up in Columbus, coordinate a meeting connected with John Glenn Columbus International Airport, or arrange professional in-cabin flight nanny service. We do not describe a beloved kitten as a package to be shipped. A flight nanny personally accompanies the kitten in the airplane cabin and completes a direct handoff to the adopter.
