Moonseed Ragdolls: Cattery Policies, Veterinary Standards, and FAQ

Welcome to the official policy and information repository for Moonseed Ragdolls, based in Columbus, Ohio. As an ethical, TICA and CFA registered breeding program, we prioritize structural transparency and client education. To ensure an informed and secure adoption experience, we have outlined our official cattery policies, medical expectations, and health guarantees below. All adoptions are governed exclusively by our comprehensive written contract, ensuring mutual protection for the buyer, the breeder, and the long-term well-being of the cat.

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Our Adoption Process & Policies

What is the initial health guarantee and baseline veterinary requirement?

The following information is taken from our comprehensive Moonseed Ragdolls Kitten Contract: We guarantee that every kitten leaves our cattery in good health[cite: 1]. To validate this guarantee and secure your kitten’s health baseline, the contract requires the purchaser to arrange a formal wellness examination by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of taking possession[cite: 1]. If the kitten is diagnosed as seriously medically deficient within this 72-hour window, we will accept the return of the kitten and provide a replacement of equal value as soon as availability permits[cite: 1]. This resolution requires proper, written medical documentation from your licensed DVM, alongside corroboration from a second examination conducted by a veterinarian of our choice[cite: 1]. Please note that our initial 72-hour guarantee explicitly excludes common, transient conditions such as standard nuisance illnesses[cite: 1]. Following the expiration of the 72-hour window, health guarantees are strictly limited to lethal genetic or congenital defects[cite: 1].

How Moonseed Ragdolls 5-year Genetic Health Guarantee operate?

To protect our families and preserve the integrity of our bloodlines, Moonseed Ragdolls provides thorough genetic testing to every breeding cat and displays the official results on our website page entitled Our Ragdoll Cats. Moonseed Ragdolls also provides with the purchase of every kitten a comprehensive 5-year guarantee against lethal genetic or congenital defects[cite: 1]. In the rare and unfortunate event that a cat passes away or requires humane euthanasia due to an inherent genetic condition within 5 years of purchase, we will replace the animal with a kitten of equal value at our earliest convenience[cite: 1]. To process a genetic replacement claim under our contract, the purchaser must provide a formal necropsy report issued by a licensed, impartial Veterinarian at the purchaser's expense, explicitly identifying an unquestionable genetic defect as the cause of death[cite: 1]. This diagnosis must be corroborated by a veterinarian selected by the cattery[cite: 1]. Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is explicitly excluded from this guarantee, as veterinary medicine classifies FIP as an environmental viral mutation rather than an inherited genetic defect[cite: 1].

Who is responsible for veterinary expenses post-adoption?

Once physical possession of the kitten is transferred, the purchaser assumes full responsibility for all subsequent veterinary, medical, and diagnostic care. Under no circumstances is Moonseed Ragdolls liable for veterinary bills or medical expenses incurred by the buyer. Per the signed contract, buyers agree to maintain proactive, routine preventative care for the life of the cat, including annual wellness exams and standard vaccinations administered by a licensed DVM[cite: 1].

What specific veterinary care do Moonseed Ragdoll kittens receive prior to going home?

The medical welfare of our cats is our primary concern. No kitten is permitted to leave our cattery without complete, verified health clearance from a licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) . Before ownership is officially transferred, every kitten completes a multi-step preventative health protocol:

  • Mandatory Spay & Neuter:

  • Every kitten is safely spayed or neutered by a licensed veterinarian before leaving the cattery, with zero exceptions.

  • Comprehensive Veterinary Examinations: A licensed veterinarian performs a comprehensive, physical health evaluation on each individual kitten to confirm normal, healthy development.

  • Preventative Immunizations & Treatments: Moonseed Ragdoll kittens receive all age-appropriate core vaccines and routine prophylactic deworming regimens. Additionally, depending on the time of year, each kitten receives a preventative dose of Revolution Kitten for optimal flea and parasite protection.

  • Microchipping: Every Moonseed Ragdoll kitten is microchipped using a Nanochip, which is universally scannable by any standard veterinary facility or animal shelter.

  • Free lifetime Microchip Registration: At the time of pickup, the new owner is provided with official instructions to complete a lifetime free microchip registration, ensuring permanent identity tracking without ongoing subscription fees.

Why does Moonseed Ragdolls communicate exclusively through documented email?

To ensure administrative accuracy, and maintain a clear operational record, Moonseed Ragdolls conducts 100% of official communications strictly through email. This professional system guarantees an unalterable, written timeline of all application updates, health disclosures, contract acknowledgments, and transition instructions. Because we manage a high volume of inquiries while dedicating our primary focus to hands-on kitten socialization, this email-only framework allows us to prioritize approved adopters efficiently and prevents any miscommunication or verbal deviations from our contract protocols. We also have a lot of educational material to provide to our kitten adopters. As depicted in our numerous Google, and Facebook Reviews from our previous kitten adopters, we like to make sure each and every kitten goes to a home that is well prepared to receive them. We provide clear and detailed instructions, expectations, and educational materials to our adopters throughout the entire adoption process to make sure our adopters are fully equipped to take home their furrever Ragdoll from Moonseed. Written communications protect us as well as the adopters. Due to the high degree of online Ragdoll kitten adoption scamming, we highly recommend using a breeder who maintains written records such as email and signed contracts. As we have unfortunately learned from prior experience in the adoption of one of our working dogs, if there ever is an issue, it is the written communication that will be instrumental in the legal process. Please keep this in mind when considering your Ragdoll breeder.

What are the terms regarding payments, non-refundable deposits, and purchase finalization?

Adopting from our program represents a definitive, binding commitment. All sales are final, and all deposits and payments made to Moonseed Ragdolls are strictly non-refundable . Full payment must be rendered in U.S. currency via verified electronic services (such as Venmo, Cash App, Apple Pay, and Zelle) when requested. We offer a standard 48-hour grace period past the payment due date; if final payment is not completed within this timeframe, the buyer automatically forfeits their claim and any funds previously paid. Additionally, our contract strictly prohibits credit card chargebacks, bank disputes, or transaction reversals. This is due to us being victim to dishonest people in the past. We have had to enact this policy alongside many other breeders. We are now very selective as to who we will allow to use our credit card payment processor and generally permit only return adopters as the level of trust has already been established. We do not accept paypal at this time.

What safety, ownership, and environmental restrictions apply to your kittens?

To preserve the lifelong welfare of our kittens and cats, our Moonseed Ragdoll kitten contract enforces strict, unalterable boundaries for all approved homes:

  • Indoor Requirement: Under NO circumstances may a Moonseed Ragdoll kitten be permitted to live outdoors, minimizing exposure to severe environmental hazards, traffic, or disease.

  • No Declawing or Modifications: Under NO circumstances shall the kitten be declawed, tattooed, pierced, or subjected to any cosmetic or non-medical surgical modifications.

  • Socialization and Maturity: Kittens remain in our residential care with mom and siblings until they reach a minimum of 14 weeks of age to ensure full and proper behavioral and social development, stability, and recovery from their veterinary alteration surgery.

  • Relinquishment Protections: Under NO circumstances may a Moonseed Ragdoll ever be sold or abandoned to a pet shop, research laboratory, or animal shelter. If a buyer is unexpectedly unable to keep the cat, they must exercise ethical rehoming options, and our cattery will actively assist in the rehoming process to ensure the cat's safety.

  • Travel and Boarding Logistics: The purchaser handles all personal travel and delivery expenses related to the adoption of their Moonseed Kitten. If a kitten is not collected on the agreed date, a 4-day grace period is provided, after which a standard boarding fee will apply.

  • Flight Nanny Protocol: If a kitten can not be picked up in person, we ask that the buyer use a trusted commercial flight nanny such as PetJetPals. The adopter will be responsible for all fees, scheduling, and communication related to the transportation of their kitten. We do not allow cargo transport of our kittens.

Can I visit the cattery in person to view the kittens before adopting?

Moonseed Ragdolls operates strictly as a private, residential breeding program and is not a public commercial pet shop or retail facility. To maintain the highest standards of animal welfare, we enforce a strict no-visitation policy at our private residence. This measure is implemented for two critical reasons: first, it ensures absolute biosecurity by protecting young, vulnerable kittens from the accidental introduction of deadly feline pathogens (such as panleukopenia, ringworm, or upper respiratory viruses) carried on clothing or shoes; second, it preserves a stress-free environment for our nursing mothers and developing litters. We prioritize transparency through comprehensive digital media, detailed individual profiles for our breeding cats and adoptable kittens, and secure, pre-arranged pickup procedures at our designated Columbus, Ohio transit locations or Columbus Airport (CMH), ensuring your kitten transitions from our clean environment to yours with maximum medical integrity.

What is Moonseed Ragdolls’ track record regarding hereditary and infectious feline diseases?

To date, Moonseed Ragdolls has had zero incidents of FIP, FeLV, FIV, PKD, and HCM in our kittens. We have also not had any occurrences of common feline nuisance diseases in our adopted kittens. To date we have not had any occurrence of early feline death due to medical condition. We take immense pride in this pristine health record, which is a direct result of our strict, proactive cattery protocols and veterinary partnership. The pillars of our health and well-being program include:

  • Expert-Designed Protocol: In 2020, we enlisted a licensed DVM feline practitioner with over 40 years of clinical experience to help build our custom cattery wellness and diagnostic protocol.

  • Proactive Screening & Prevention: Every breeding cat undergoes extensive screening for genetic and infectious diseases, alongside routine fecal testing. To maintain a parasite-free environment, all adult cats and departing kittens receive year-round internal and external parasite protection via Revolution Plus.

  • Small-Scale Environment: We intentionally maintain a small-scale, low adult cat number home environment. Because research shows that stress and feline disease are directly linked to high animal density, our cats live as loose family pets, separated comfortably rather than crowded into a single room. Our breeding cat population is small, and we do not cycle new cats in and out of the home.

  • Advanced Biosecurity & Sanitation: Our nursery and cattery rooms are deeply sanitized daily using high-heat vapor systems reaching 318°F, supplemented by veterinary-grade disinfecting agents. The entire cattery environment is continuously managed with medical-grade HEPA air purification and maximum natural light.

What do previous adopters say about Moonseed Ragdolls, and what is your client return rate?

Since establishing our breeding program in 2019, Moonseed Ragdolls has maintained an exceptional reputation for producing structurally beautiful, highly socialized, and emotionally sound Ragdolls. A defining milestone of our cattery is that 80% of our approved families return to us over time to adopt their second, third, fourth, and even fifth Moonseed Ragdoll kitten. According to verified feedback across Google, Facebook, and independent breed publications like Catster, our families consistently highlight several key attributes:

  • True Ragdoll Temperament and Socialization: Adopters repeatedly praise our kittens for being exceptionally calm, docile, affectionate, and thoroughly exposed to household dynamics like young children, dogs, and routine grooming (such as nail trimming and brushing).

  • Exceptional Breed Standard: Reviews routinely note that our kittens grow into large, beautifully built, show-quality examples of the breed with classic, docile 'limp noodle' dispositions when held.

  • Comprehensive Client Support: Families emphasize that we provide structured guidance throughout the entire transition process, ensuring a smooth, secure introduction into their homes.

  • Share Your Experience: We invite all of our past Moonseed Families to view or submit their verified reviews on our official Google Review Portal or Facebook Pages.

What is the philosophy behind Moonseed Ragdolls’ breeding program and lineage selection?

Our mission is to preserve and promote the true Ragdoll breed standard by prioritizing health, temperament, and type, in that exact order. We will not breed any cat that does not possess the ideal, docile temperament and perfect health markers. To secure the future of our lineage, we comb through our pedigrees with absolute precision and adhere to a strict, ethical framework:

  • Elite & Traditional Lineages: We select our breeding cats exclusively from well-established, ethical breeders worldwide. Our program features both traditional lines (pure Ragdoll with zero outcrossing) and celebrated, award-winning lines, including parentage from multi-association champions.

  • 100% Traditional Pedigree Sire Our program features a very rare traditional pedigree sire with selective, uncrossed ancestry (97%). Our current sire, TICA Champion USAPurrs Hawthorn, boasts an immaculate, documented lineage that can be traced back to the original foundation cats owned by breed founder Ann Baker, ensuring the preservation of the authentic, large body type and signature "floppy," "puppy-like" nature.

  • Championship Heritage & TICA Lifetime Achievement Award Lines: Moonseed Ragdolls incorporates bloodlines with a rich heritage of competitive excellence. Our pedigrees feature numerous Grand Champion and Supreme Grand Champion bloodlines, alongside historic ancestry from TICA Lifetime Achievement Award-winning lines. This includes parentage from legendary foundation sires like "Day Tripper," who championed across multiple registries (CFA, TICA, CFF) and was voted "Cream of the Crop" by Ragdoll Fanciers Worldwide.

  • Zero-Tolerance Health & Temperament Standards: What sets this breed apart is the iconic "Ragdoll personality". The Ragdoll is docile, loyal, loving, intelligent, and inclined to relax completely into a limp state when held. We fine-tooth comb our bloodlines to lock in these behavioral traits, systematically ensuring that any cat showing suboptimal temperament or health markers is strictly excluded from our breeding program.

  •  Continuous Genetic Screening: We are active participants in a dedicated global Ragdoll breeding community that genetically tests every single breeding cat. This exhaustive screening ensures our future generations see a minimal occurrence of the genetic mutations or carrier traits associated with feline disease.

  • Defining Ethical Breeder Accountability: In our program, an ethical breeder is one who assumes lifelong responsibility for the safety and well-being of every cat. This translates to premium, living conditions, rigorous veterinary protocols, thorough adopter screening, and mandatory spaying and neutering for all departing kittens.
